Happy Super Thursday Gabbers!

It's hard to believe that the Super Bowl is this Sunday, and it certainly beats the hell out of what we had to sit through last weekend (the joke of a game known as the Pro Bowl). The Super Bowl should be very entertaining with two of the best quarterbacks in the league battling it out in what should turn out to be one of the highest scoring Super Bowls of all time. (Now watch, because I said this the game will end up being 6-3 on a last second field goal by whatever the hell the Saints' kicker's name is.)

Based on what I've seen from both teams during the regular season and in the playoffs, I am going to take the Saints to win. I know, I know - the Colts have Peyton Manning under center and should have been the latest team trying to knock Mercury Morris and the rest of the '72 Douchebags Dolphins before they decided to pull out their starters like a boyfriend on prom night, but I think the Saints have a slight edge (and by slight I mean smallest possible margin in the history of margins) and will win in a shootout 42-38.

Regardless of what the final score is, whether it be 42-38 or 3-0, the game will be exciting because it doesn't involve Dallas, New England (sorry Pats fans), the Giants, or Brett Favre. I don't know about you guys but I would like to see a Super Bowl game that's actually about the game itself and not about one or two people who happen to be playing in the game. (I know that we don't have that this season, because this Super Bowl has become the Manning vs. Brees game instead of the Saints vs. Colts, and Dwight Freeney's ankle has gained more recognition in the past three days than most players get in their entire careers, but still - at least this game doesn't have Jerrry Jones or Brett Favre involved in it. Remember kids, it can always be worse.)

I know that the NFL and the tv networks have caught a lot of flack in recent years for getting "lame" halftime show entertainment but I honestly don't see what the problem is with The Who. And honestly, I haven't found many problems with the recent acts to perform, with the exception of  The Rolling Stones (who appear to be gathering a little moss, if you ask me - they are the classic case of right band, wrong decade) and Paul McCartney (who was only made famous by three other guys who are now dead and he shouldn't have performed alone because without the other Beatles he's not that great - in my personal opinion the only one who was good on his own was Lennon, but again that's just my opinion.)

But, I don't see a problem with having Prince, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and The Who as the last four acts to perform at the Super Bowl. I think they symbolize what real music is anyway - you know, thoughts and feelings and real music with real lyrics and real feelings and raw passion, instead of the stupid shit that we have to put up with these days - like I give a shit about Lady Gaga's poker face. (I would like to poke her face though - with a hot branding iron.) I guess it's true that  things just aren't what they used to be, and the music industry certainly is proof of that.

Of course the halftime show isn't the only entertainment to be had on Super Sunday. The commercials are sure to be water-cooler fodder on Monday, especially if Focus on the Family gets their way and plays the Tim Tebow ad. It seems that a lot of people have strong feelings on this advertisement (though I'm not sure why, it's not like abortion is a hot-button topic or anything). Now, I'm not going to get involved in the abortion debate, because the Gab isn't the place for it, but I will say that I hope they run the ad.

It has nothing to do with my view on abortion, but it has everything to do with my view on freedom of speech. Focus on the Family has just as much right to play the ad as the pro-choice movement has to protest it. They should be allowed to run the ad simply because this is America, and that is what this country is all about - the freedom to say whatever in the hell you want to. It's not like they are going to force anyone to do anything - they are simply going to say that Tim Tebow's mother made a choice, and that people should make informed decisions when facing something as serious as a possible abortion. Of course the message will be pro-life, and it will piss a lot of people off, but still - they have the right to say it no matter who agrees or disagrees with it, and I hope that they are allowed to show the ad just for the simple fact that we can't afford to lose our freedom of expression - we're already PC enough in this country, we can't afford to get any worse.

And while we're on the subject of free speech, be sure to check this out. It's a video of Earl Weaver going off on a radio show, courtesy of the Beeze - it's freaking hilarious, but please be warned - this is NOT safe for work, unless you work somewhere with very lenient rules.

That's it for this week folks. Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section, as well as a Super Bowl prediction if you have one.

My official pick: Saints 42 Colts 38

Enjoy the rest of the week guys, and remember that if you go to any Super Bowl parties this Sunday, please designate a driver, or go easy on the booze.

Until next Thursday...
