I don’t want to know who is or isn’t  playing in the NFL Pro-Bowl this week, or the over/under on how many times Eli Manning will be sacked in the Super Bowl, or whether Tom Brady is abstaining from sex with Gisele until after the big game, so I am venturing away from writing about sports in this week’s blog.  The above song was written by the great Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac and appeared on their monumental album “Rumors”, which was released to the music world in 1977 to immediate critical and popular success.  It is currently the eighth bestselling album of all-time.  If you have an interest, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is #1 and The Eagles “Greatest Hits” #2,  although the rankings may change now that the television show “Glee” ran a episode with “Rumors” hits last week and the 35 year old album immediately vaulted back up into the Top 10 in Billboard’s popular music sales charts.  This just shows that today’s youth will still respond to great music if they are exposed to it.  Bully to the producers of “Glee” and bully to the great band Fleetwood Mac for their staying power.

While I am on the subject of old school music and Fleetwood Mac, there was a great discussion on this site last week about whom the best rock guitarists are.  I wish to nominate Lindsay Buckingham to the short list of uber-talented guitarists.  Listen to his guitar riffs on “Don’t Stop” (written by Christie McVie of Fleetwood Mac and also on the “Rumors” album) and you will most probably agree.  By the way, the band playing on stage with Fleetwood Mac in this video is the USC Trojan Marching Band, so this is one of a very short list of rock songs featuring college Marching Bands.

Here is another, more modern rock song featuring a marching band, this time it’s Notre Dame.  Yes I know that they are not wearing their school colors, so you will have to take my word for it, it is them.  This video was filmed in one take in South Bend, and on an Irish practice football field.  Just remember, you can’t keep letting it get you down!

While we are on the subject of the best rock guitarists, here are a couple more old school guys that I submit for your consideration, Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton.  They are playing together onstage in concert and showcasing their talents.

I will exit this week with another Fleetwood Mac hit off the “Rumors” album, “Dreams” written by the multi-talented and beautiful Stevie Nicks.  If you do not have the album, buy it.  You will love it and, in purchasing it, you will own one of the greatest rock and roll albums of all-time.
