Once again the Midshipmen of Navy pushed the Fighting Irish to the limit...And once again they came to Notre Dame and beat the Irish...It seems every year Navy plays Notre Dame as tough as anyone else...It's not just USC that Charlie Wies has trouble with...Clearly he has trouble with Navy also...
The Irish offense put up 512 total yards...But that isn't always gonna win when you give up 348 yards on the ground to your opponent...
Clausen completed 37 of 51 passes, for 452 and 2 touchdowns...Michael Floyd was back in the lineup, and made 10 catches for 141 yards and 1 touchdown...Tate had 9 receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown...
The Irish offense was without Armando Allen...Freshman Theo Riddick carried the ball 5 times for 35 yards...Robert Hughes had 7 carries for 20 yards and a touchdown...
Irish kicker Nick Tausch had missed 2 field goal attempts...One of 41 yards, and one of 30 yards...
Another key to this loss...Navy's Craig Schaefer sack for a safety with a minute left in the game...
There were plays the offense didn't make...There were the missed field goals...But in the end...To me, it came down to the Notre Dame defense not being able to stop Navy's ground game...
Now, we'll be hearing plenty of people calling for Wies' head...
