Trying on Tuxedo?? Update on my hip?? Was Mayweather right?? Don’t get your hair in a dandruff folks as we tackle Jeremy Lin and more in this edition of …..

Before we start I have to tell ya, going for a Tuxedo sucks. My son is getting married on March 31st and we had to get measurements and try on a jacket. They don’t wear the jackets like they use to. I couldn’t move my arms while wearing the jacket and the lady says you have to unbutton the buttons to do that. Gee back in the early 80’s (the last time I wore one) we had them buttoned and were able to move our arms all over the place.

While we are speaking of my son’s wedding to Mindy (a lady he should have found 20 years earlier), it is the day before WrestleMania. I usually have a party for the event. This year it looks like I will be going to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch it. A good son and daughter-in-law would buy there dad a ticket to the event.

Hip is doing well. I have more good days than bad. I am able to move around for most of the time I am at work depending on the type of mail I lift. I am on the right track.

Now I get the picture about LIN-sanity. It has nothing to do with not being African American or White, but in reality it does.

You see the NBA has “Tapped out” with the African American and White audiences and now needs to find new forms of revenue per-see. They tried with Yao Ming and the Chinese people, and for awhile it worked until his career was cut short.

That is why the NBA is bending over backwards to allow Lin to appear at All-Star events at the last minute, even though he only played all of 12 games this year.

While it is still early to make any predictions on who is going to their respective divisions, in baseball, I like the direction the Florida Marlins, Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates are going.

The NFL has over 600 unrestricted free agents. You can have an all-pro team if the players don’t resign with their teams.

TCU and drugs just doesn’t seem right. But I guess nothing is sacred.

Spring time is here when pitchers and catchers report to spring training. Or is it??

I went to my first Lacrosse game this past Sunday. #5 Denver played against Ohio State and Jacksonville University played against Navy. There was just over 6,000 people in attendance, and the one thing that stood out was there were more people in the stands wearing Syracuse shirts than of the other teams that were playing.

I had a good time as Ohio State upset Denver 10-9 and Jacksonville beat Navy 13-7.

There was tailgating and kids were playing in the parking lot.

Jacksonville University has a team and the City is trying to bring teams in to play in an event called Moe’s classic. This is the second year in a row they have done this. I hope more people attend, it is fast paced and some good hitting, with getting hit with a penalty.

That’s all for now.

Tags: NFL awards Super Bowl Commercials NFL Hall of Fame New York Giants New England Patriots Tiquan Underwood 3rdStoneFromTheSun

Wow, what a crappy week. It’s always sad one of our own departs from our lives. It is never easy, but unfortunately we have to move on with a heavy, heavy heart. I would like to send my deepest sympathy to the family of 3rdStonefromTheSun. An expert in everything NFL and NFL Hall of Fame, and deeply dedicated to his Redskins.. A place for you should be made in the Bloggers Hall of Fame.

This was my blog from last week, but I gave up my space when I heard 3rdStone passed. So in dedication to him, I will repost it because it was strictly dedicated to football.

Classless Patriots, Commercials, Player Cut, Awards, Hall of Fame, and more in this weeks NFL edition of….

With a cheerleader like this, do you really want the season to end?

What a dumb ass, classless move by New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick

Letting wide receiver Tiquan Underwood go the night before the Super Bowl. This move was done to give Chad Ochocinco more playing time in the Super Bowl. The Patriots activated DE Alex Silvestro. Ochocinco was a non-factor with 1 catch for 21 yards. I don’t think that Silvestro even played as he didn’t record a tackle or sack.

Super Bowl Commercials I found amusing:

Doritos stole the show with two of them:

Hat’s off to the Super Bowl Champions New York Giants. Great game by both teams. Missed catches help zeal the deal for the G-Men as they defeat the New England Patriots for the second time in the Super Bowl 21-17.

Eli Manning no longer needs to be mentioned as Peyton’s little brother, In fact, with two Super Bowl wins and two Super Bowl MVP’s maybe Peyton should be referred to as Eli’s big brother.

The New York Giant’s aren’t the only ones getting rings this year. Minutes after the G-Men won the Super Bowl, middle linebacker Greg Jones proposed to his college sweetheart Mandy Piechowski. Mandy is a former Michigan State Spartan basketball player and currently a model. She said yes minutes after the win. Greg had a teammate who was not playing to hold the ring. If the Giants lost he was going to propose on another day.

111.3 million people watched the Super Bowl on NBC according to stats released by the Nielsen Company. It topped last year's 111 million for Super Bowl XLV on Fox. 117.7 million viewers watched the final quarter of the 21-17 game.

NBC reported that the halftime performance by Madonna was seen by 114.0 million viewers, nearly four million more than last year's performance featuring the Black Eyed Peas (110.3 million). That sets a record for most-watched Super Bowl halftime show featuring entertainment, whose rating dates back to 1991.

Congratulations go out to the following winners of the NFL awards:

MVP: Aaron Rogers.

48 of 50 votes for the award. Aaron led the Green Bay Packers to a 15-1 record, a passing rating of 122.5, which led the NFL, 45 touchdowns and only six interceptions.

Offensive Player of the Year: Drew Brees.

Took 43 of 50 votes with Rogers finishing second. Brees set the mark for most passing yards in a season with 5,476, most completions in a season 468 and completed 71.6 percent of his passes. Under the leadership of Drew the Saints set NFL single-season records of 7,474 offensive yards and first downs with 416.

Offensive Rookie of the Year: Cam Newton.

This was a no brainer as he had one of the greatest years a rookie has ever had. Cam set an NFL record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 14 and became the first player in league history to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 500 yards. He threw 21 touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Year: Terrell Suggs.

Was a terror as Suggs had 14 sacks, 70 tackles, 7 forced fumbles and two interception. IS he the heir-apparent to Ray Lewis?

Defensive Rookie of the Year: Von Miller.

Miller had 11 ½ sacks and 64 tackles while playing the last 4 games with a cast protecting his surgically repaired right thumb.

Coach of the Year: Jim Harbaugh.

Turned around a sinking ship in the 49ers. The team went from 6-10, under Singleton and Tomsula and in 2011 went 13-3 under the first year coach.

Comeback Player of the Year: Matthew Stafford.

Went 1-2 only 3 games as injuries curtailed his 2010 season. In 2011 Matthew threw for 5,038 yards 41 touchdowns while guiding the Detroit Lions to their first playoff berth in 12 years.

Walter Payton Man of the Year: Matt Birk.

Matt supports you literacy with a program called “Ready, Set, Read,” through his HIKE Foundation. He has also agreed to donate his brain and spinal cord tissue to Boston University’s Center for Traumatic Encephalopathy.

Never Say Never Moment of the Year: Tim Tebow.

For his performance in Denver’s 13-10 overtime win against the Chicago Bears as voted by the fans.

The NFL announced the 2012 class of the Hall of Fame. An impressive group to say the least. Here are the inductees:

Curtis Martin

Rushed for 14,101 (4th all-time) and 90 touchdowns rushing and 10 receiving while playing for New England Patriots and New York Jets.

Dermontti Dawson

A 7-time pro bowl selection, played 13 years as center for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played in 181 games in which he started 142.

Chris Doleman

A 8-time pro bowl selection, had 150 ½ sacks while playing for the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers during his 15 year playing career. He also had 8 interceptions two for touchdowns and 914 tackles.

Cortez Kennedy

A 8-time pro bowl selection had 58 sacks for a tackle in an 11-year career with the Seattle Seahawks.

Willie Roaf

A 11-time pro bowl selection made the All-Decade team of the 1990’s while playing for the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs while playing tackle.

Jack Butler

In a 9-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a corner backer he had 52 interceptions with four of them returned for a touchdown. He also was a 4-time pro bowl selection.

With that being said, as Jerry Rice said Sunday morning, with Tim Brown, and Chris Carter being left off again, what is the criteria that is needed to be enshrined into the Hall of Fame.

Prince’s deal, Tebow hanging with the girls, Super Bowl fun, all this in my weekly edition of:

What a way to cool down!!

I just got ticket to see my first lacrosse game. On February 19, 2012, Everbank Field in Jacksonville, Fl will be hosting the Lacrosse Classic. It will pit #5 Denver versus Ohio State and then Jacksonville University versus Navy. I got great seats for only $20.

Then if I can hold out, I will make a mad dash to Buffalo Wild Wings to see the WWE’s Extreme Rules PPV. I got to get my wrestling fix.

Here is a breakdown of Prince Fielder’s 9-year, $214 million contract:

Fielder will earn $23 million in each of his first two years with Detroit, then will make $24 million annually in the final seven seasons of his $214 million, nine-year contract, according the Associated Press. His contract also includes loads of incentives:

$500,000 if he's the AL MVP, $200,000 if he's second through fifth ,$100,000 if he's sixth through 10th.

$1 million for each MVP

$100,000 if he's an All-Star starter, $50,000 if he's a reserve,

$100,000 if he's a Baseball America or Sporting News postseason All-Star.

$100,000 for a Gold Glove,

$100,000 for a Silver Slugger,

$100,000 for the Hank Aaron Award

$150,000 for league championship series MVP

$200,000 for World Series MVP

Glad the weekend is over. Now its Super Bowl time. I know there are a lot of Patriot fans on this website. But, I'm proud, I’ll admit it, I am a Giant fan. There, I said it.

Go G-Men!!

Okay, my Giants are in the Super Bowl and I have to make a prediction. I think the Giants will beat New England, 28-24. The G-Men will have multiple weapons to choice from, while the Patriots will rely on a passing game that might not get them too far. I do expect it to be a high scoring game.

Did anyone watch the winter x-games. I didn’t think so.

Here’s a Tebow tibit that went under the radar:

On January 18, 2012, Tim Tebow shared a hotel with one of the world’s largest porn conventions while in Las Vegas. He was in the Hard Rock Hotel just outside Las Vegas when this occurred. The Adult Video News (AVN) awards were being held at the Hard Rock. Rumor has it that Tebow spent most of the time in his penthouse suite.

Some parts of this were taken from Fox Sports.

This is the only feel-good story this Super Bowl weekend. It’s about New York Giants LB Mark Herzlich who fought cancer and won.

The 24-year-old tweeted the following when he debarked from the Giants airplane after it landed in Indianapolis:

“2 yrs ago I was told I might never walk again. Just WALKED off plane in Indy to play in The #SuperBowl. #TakeThatSh*tCancer.”

He had Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. The cancer surrounded his entire left femur. If it had spread there would have been a 10 percent survival rate. The doctor at the time said football was over. During chemotherapy Herzlich lifted weights, did cardio and kept himself in shape. When it was time to operate and remove the femur, he said no.

“I had the chemo for two months and then I was supposed to have surgery to remove my femur and take out above and below where the tumor was,” he said. “That’s where — I don’t have a percentage but most people do that. I decided that would give me zero shot at ever playing again, so I wanted to go with the — I wouldn’t say more risky because there’s no data, but the path less traveled — and went with radiation, which is not usually done."

“And I’ve had three or four doctors I saw who said they would absolutely not do radiation on me and not put a rod through my femur because the cancer would spread and I would die within six months,” he said. “I had to trust my doctors and go with my gut. I knew in order to actually be the person I wanted to be again I had to be able to do things like run around and play with my kids in the backyard or play football.”

He a chance and survived.

Tags: Joe Paterno Ryan Braun Ed Hochuli Giants 49ers Patriots Ravens Ed Hochuli Prince Fielder

The end of an era?? A ref gets my nod?? Braun tells it like it is?? Fielder not on a team?? Giants, 49ers and more in this edition of Random Thoughts.

Did you expect to see a women every week??

College football lost one of the greatest coaches of all-time with the passing of Joe Paterno, the longtime Penn State coach who won more games than anyone in major college football but was fired amid a child sex abuse scandal that scarred his reputation for winning with integrity, died Sunday. He was 85.

His family released a statement Sunday morning to announce his death: "His loss leaves a void in our lives that will never be filled. He died as he lived. He fought hard until the end, stayed positive, thought only of others and constantly reminded everyone of how blessed his life had been. His ambitions were far reaching, but he never believed he had to leave this Happy Valley to achieve them. He was a man devoted to his family, his university, his players and his community."

Paterno built his program on the credo "Success with Honor," and he found both. The man known as "JoePa" won 409 games and took the Nittany Lions to 37 bowl games, winning 24, and two national championships. More than 250 of the players he coached went on to the NFL.

He never mention testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, but National League MVP, Ryan Braun, in a public appearance, to accept his award told a packed room that "everything I have done in my career has been done with respect and appreciation for the game of baseball. You know, sometimes in life, we all deal with challenges we never expected to endure. We have an opportunity to look at those challenges and view them either as obstacles or as opportunities, and I've chosen to view every challenge I've ever faced as an opportunity and this will be no different. I have always believed that a person's character is revealed through the way they deal with those moments of adversity."

Ryan had a stellar season, won the NL MVP in his fifth season, batting .332 with 32 home runs and 111 RBIs, 109 runs scored and 33 stolen bases. He also led the league in slugging percentage (.597).

In a story by ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” Braun tested positive for an elevated level of testosterone in a urine test taken in October. But there are conflicting reports about what caused the positive result, and the New York Times quoted a source as saying a later test showed Braun to have normal testosterone levels.

Before Saturday night, Braun had not spoken publicly about the failed test, but a spokesman for Braun confirmed the result and issued the following statement: "There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program. While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident he will ultimately be exonerated."

Braun is appealing the result but faces a 50-game suspension at the start of the 2012 season under Major League Baseball's drug policy if the test is upheld. According to The Associated Press, Braun's appeal began on Thursday before MLB arbitrator Shyam Das. If it is unsuccessful, Braun would not be eligible to play again until May 31 and would miss the first 57 days of the regular season, resulting in a loss of approximately $1.87 million of his $6 million salary.

Ironically, MLB commissioner Bud Selig has, on more than one occasion, cited Braun as a clean player and an example of the effectiveness of baseball's drug-testing policy. Braun said he had never been tempted to try them.

"I would never do it,'' he said in an interview with MLB.com, "because if I took steroids, I would hit 60 or 70 home runs."

I guess we can say, to be continued….

Probably the best two Championship games in NFL history happened this past Sunday.

New England Patriots beat the Baltimore Ravens 23-20. Goat was Billy Cundiff, who missed a field goal to tie the game. Or was he? With 23 seconds left in the game, Lee Evans had a potential game-winning catch in his hands, but was stripped by Sterling Moore with 23 seconds left in the game.

Here is the catch that wasn’t for the Ravens:

Here is the missed field goal:

In an old school NFL classic, the New York Giants beat the San Francisco 49ers in over-time 20-17. The goat in this game was Kyle Williams who fumbled which was recovered by Devin Thomas inside the 30 yard line and the Giants recovered. The G-Men ran a couple of plays and then kicked the game-winning field goal to send them to the Super Bowl.

Here is the Fumble:

For the record:

Let's get off the fuck Billy Cundiff bandwagon. Sure he missed a field goal to TIE the game.

It was Lee Evans who cost the Ravens a chance for the Super Bowl when he caught a pass in the end zone just to have it knocked out of his hands. Did anyone remember that?? It happened 22 seconds before the missed field goal to TIE the game where Evans catch would have WON the game

What went unnoticed during the 49ers/Giants game was the way referee Ed Hochuli handled the game. Sure there was several calls that were questionable like Vernon Davis foot on the line and Ahmad Bradshaw’s forward progress, but what he did was call the game with authority. He also kept football fans informed with what happened and why the call was made on replay calls. Well done ref!!

Does Prince Fielder have bad breath, or body odor?? Why hasn’t anyone signed him by now?? He is in his prime, at 28 years of age (in May), .282 average, 230 homeruns, 656 RBI’s.

Just as I was typing the above, when this came in….

Prince signs a 9 year deal worth $214 million. WOW. I guess this makes the Tigers the favorites to win the World Series.

Is there a misprint in the sport section of my newspaper, The Florida-Times Union? Seem to me it says the Philadelphia 76ers are 11-5 and the Boston Celtics are 7-9. It that true?

Tags: Mike Mularkey Dirk Koetter Bernie Fine Giants 49ers Patriots Ravens Joe Paterno

Nothing inside ScottJax’s brain?? He’s clueless?? A lot has happened but nothings coming out. What’s one to do?? Well, we must go on with the blog, in this weeks edition of Random Thoughts. Yeah Right!!

The following is a paid message by ScottJax. This picture might not be suitable for all gabbers, or then again it might be!!

Now on with the fart…..

Trade of Offensive Coordinators??

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed former Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator, Mike Mularkey to be their next head coach. Then Mularkey signed former Falcons quarterbacks coach Bob Bratkowski to be the Jags offensive coordinator. Then this past Sunday, the Falcons signed former Jaguars offensive coordinator to be their next offensive coordinator.

Koetter was criticized for the way the Jags played on offense. Then again Jacksonville does not have the talent the Falcons do.

Bernie Fine accuser, says its all a lie. Prison inmate, Floyd VanHooser, one of four men to accuse the former assistant coach of sexual abuse, lied to police. He admitted that he made up his claim. Fine had helped raised VanHooser after his parents died. Floyd wanted to get back at Bernie Fine because Fine did not hire a lawyer to help him fight a criminal conviction. "In a statement I gave, I told a lot of lies about Bernie Fine. None of what I said was true," VanHooser wrote. "Bernie has been nothing but good to me over the years. He was the only thing I had close to a father. He never did anything wrong. He is a good man."

Did Joe Paterno do the right thing? In a two day interview with a Washington Post reported, Paterno says he did not know how to deal with the situation when he received a report that his former defensive coordinator was accused of abusing a boy in the showers.

"I didn't know exactly how to handle it and I was afraid to do something that might jeopardize what the university procedure was," he told The Post in an extensive two-day interview at his home in State College, Pa. "So I backed away and turned it over to some other people, people I thought would have a little more expertise than I did. It didn't work out that way."

Ryan Braun will be making his first public appearance this Saturday when he will appear in New York to accept his National League MVP award. He will be making a speech after he receives the award.

I am usually not one to make predictions, I usually save them for the so-called experts, but these two games can be as different as night and day.

Patriots/Ravens:

This could be a laugher. Ray Lewis, is not the same as he was, and neither is Ed Reed and it showed against the Texans. Yeah the Ravens won, but the Patriots offense is one of the best and will be no match for the Ravens. I don’t see how the Ravens can mount any offense against New England. Baltimore will exit the playoffs in a laugher 38-12.

Giants/49er's:

This should be another slobberknocker, as Jim Ross (a former WWE Hall of Fame announcer, as well as a former Atlanta Falcons announcer) would say. Old fashion, hard nosed football. Both teams can run the ball. 49ers Vernon Davis is a threat that the Giants can negate. G-men have too many receivers for San Francisco to defend against. It will be up to the defense of both teams to slow down the offense. It won’t happen as the Giants will prevail, 28-27.

Wow, it sounds like I know what I am talking about.

Til next time
