I don't get Cool TV out here.  As for Soul Train, they had some live acts and they were pretty cool.  You're right though, I really do miss live acts on TV - let me rephrase that, live acts that actually play M-U-S-I-C!!!

Love the idea about Negro Leagues. A lot of the surviving players would probably be more than happy to tour at different schools to get their stories out there. I think it would be a great shot in the arm to those tough, old vets and the kids. 

The thing about Soul Train was that the music was classic R&B. The music was no problem. You had Motown and up and comers like Issac Hayes or Barry White. There was a surprising amount of variety there. I'm just in favor of music television actually showing music. Speaking of which, do you get The Cool TV out there, B.O.B.? If so check it out. They show a lot of music videos and old concerts. I spent a night watching an old Barenaked Ladies concert a month ago. Great stuff.

If Major League Baseball wants to get super serious about encouraging African American kids to play the game, than they need to make the effort to set-up not just fields, but baseball academies like they do in places like the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. It doesn't necessarily have to be for just African American kids, but if you give them a structured environment to learn and love the game, than the interest will be there.

2.) Not only is the NBA play product horrible, but have you seen the officiating? It is downright disgraceful. There is no consistency in calling a game. Conspiracy theorists may have something in mind, but they can't be far off when they have to see this crap.

Baseball needs to enforce the rules in place about speeding up the game, especially between pitches. 

Chicks might dig the long ball, but I think that the NL style of speed and scratching out runs creates more action and might bring folks back to the game.

MLB is enjoying a sort of reniassance and they really need to take advantage and adjust to the desires of the new generations of potential fans.

I like the Black history month idea , I see even youth leagues Black, white a lot of kids are turning from baseball and going to LAX. in their minds it's a faster more athletic game.

I believe America is far better than this, but it's going to take something that has escaped our generation - LEADERSHIP!  Politicians are so afraid to make a decision, the real power brokers (bankers, lawyers, and doctors) are just destroying what made this country great in order to make that extra dollar.  

Republicans and Democrats are both beyond screwed up and cannot be fixed - they owe too much to special interests.  What they don't realize is that most of this country is fiscally conservative and socially liberal.  It totally goes against their (and bankers) belief structure - that's why everybody hates them.  I'm trying to find a word for these to parties - has-beens is the closest I can come up with.  They have killed this country.

Can we be fixed?  Only if this generation can grow up and be willing to make the sacrificies as necessary - and do it in a hurry.

I agree with you partly regarding Hamilton. His history of drug use makes him a very public target. If he wanted to keep this story out of the headlines, he would do well to not drink in public. It is sort of like John Daly getting loaded at Hooters...it is gonna hit the wires. The great thing about recovery is that you have to take each day as it comes. So Hamilton silpped? Okay, he begins the next day all over again. The power of 12 step programs is that the first step requires you to admit to being powerless. The second step is that you acknowledge a higher power. What I have found is that you put enough sober days together and then you have a year, then two then ten. The process may seem hokey to you, but I know that it has worked for me. I have found a big difference between being spiritual and religious...one is a way to live your life and the other is what you do to show the community.

Hard to figure why Carter and Haley did not make the HOF. Both are great players that should be in the HOF. Parcells should probably be in too, but I am not a big fan either...

Nice battle this week in hockey...glad there was not another day.
